No Shame In The Confidence Game

by: Daniella Saldana

You know the feeling – some days you feel unstoppable, and other days you feel lke you have no idea what you’re doing. The trick, though, is to not let the bad days suck up all of our confidence. Once our confidence is shaken, it can be difficult to get back on track.

Whether you want to reignite your confidence at work or just be more confident in life, here are a few tips to get your inner Beyoncé back:

Embrace Your Strengths: We all have strengths and weaknesses. When your confidence is shaken, it’s good to focus on those special things that are unique to you. Think about (or write out) what you bring to the table that no one else can offer. Focusing on your strengths can help to quiet the negative voice in your head that says you can’t. When you begin to feel comfortable in what you know you can do, it will help you also tackle things you aren’t so sure about. You'll own your confidence when you embrace your strengths, acknowledge your weaknesses, and work towards improving them.

Positive Vibes: Ever heard the phrase, “You get back what you send out in the world”? I like to think that this is true. Expecting bad things to happen all the time and having a negative mindset will not serve you well. If you tell yourself you CAN achieve something, then I think you are already halfway there! Start by giving yourself pep talks about the small things and work your way up. Listen to music that makes you feel good. Wear that outfit that makes you feel hot! Next thing you know you’ll be pep talking yourself for that really big interview you’ve been waiting for!

Think of Future You: Think of who you would want to be in the future, the goals you want to accomplish, and things you’ve overcome in the past. That alone is a step in the right direction. Future you would be really happy that present you decided to stick to her goal. Whenever I find myself in a tough situation, I just picture myself being done with it already, and I imagine how I'd feel after having finished with the ordeal. Just picturing yourself accomplishing something difficult may give you the motivation to do so, and hence gain confidence about doing it again.

Confidence is often a state of mind, when it comes down to it. Love yourself and accept yourself for who are and who you can be.

You are awesome! Happy Monday!
