Carpe That Diem

“I dream it, I work hard, I grind til I own it.” -Beyoncé

As we wrap up the first quarter of the year, I am reminded of the resolutions many of us made for ourselves. Weight loss, changing your job, quitting smoking, getting rid of/staying away from that no good ex once and for all, or putting down that alcohol. How have you done on staying committed to your goals and resolutions?

If you have slipped, why not recommit yourself now to achieving your goals? It is a daunting task at first but here are a few suggestions to help you hit your stride and crush those goals all year long:

Make sure your goals/resolutions are S.M.A.R.T.

  • Specific--Is It Sensible?
  • Measurable--Is It Motivating?
  • Achievable--Is it Attainable?
  • Relevant--Is It Results Based?
  • Time Bound--Is It Time Sensitive?

Accountability Partner
It's easy to give up if you don't have someone holding you accountable/cheering you on. So, when you are attempting to evolve, it’s imperative that you have a partner to push you.

Vision Board
Seeing is believing--creating a vision board might be right for helping you to visualize your goals. If, for example, you want to shed weight, add key images to your vision board. Clip pictures of your fitness muse. Put your goal/target weight number on there. Save a vision board of your favorite fitness routines. Plan your meals so you will be less tempted to eat out. You can do this for any goal.

Prepare For Naysayers
As you grow into the new and improved you, haters will come from everywhere. These may run the gamut---colleagues, peers, friends, and of course family. Don't let their words sink in and fester. If they miss the old you, they can scroll through your Facebook page.

You
I can give you all the tools necessary to accomplish your goals. However, if you don't put in the work, it doesn’t matter what I say or the tips I share. You must own it.

To Summarize:

Create SMART goals
Get an Accountability Partner
Consider a Vision Board
Have a Thick Skin
Believe in Yourself

Persistence is the key to accomplishing anything. However, with dedication, moxy, and grit you will be living your best life for the 'gram and in real life.
