I remember the first time I had the opportunity to exercise my right to vote. It was the 2000 presidential election: Bush vs. Gore. I remember how excited and torn I was. I grew up in a conservative household, and up until that point the only issues I heard my parents talk about were moral ones. You know--hot topics like abortion and who should marry whom. I grew up thinking that Democrats couldn’t be Christians, because of “those” issues. Albeit, those issues are important, but they aren’t the only ones that matter.
I also heard adults say, “your vote doesn’t matter.”
